Fred Astaire (1899-1987) was an American dancer and singer famous for his numerous appearances in musical films between the 1940s and the 1970s. He paired with some of the most famous dancers in the history of cinema but his best known partner was Ginger Rogers, with whom he acted and danced in 10 films. Although he claimed his singing abilities were not so good, Astaire sang songs by Cole Porter, Irving Berling and the Gershwins.
